One may have possibly seen this "Bumper Sticker" or "Car Sticker" on many modern day roads. My Boss is a Jewish Carpenter is referring directly to our Messiah Yeshua (Jesus) and implying that his secular profession was that of a Carpenter or Wood Worker. 

Yeshua (Jesus) the Carpenter or Stone Mason

Strong's 5045: A carpenter, an artisan. From the base of timoria; an artificer, i.e., a craftsman in wood.

We can look to the Gospel scripture to know the events and details of Yeshua's (Jesus) life and one verse in particular addresses whether Yeshua's (Jesus) was actually a carpenter. Mark 6:3 gives us the response by those in Yeshua's (Jesus) hometown when he returned to teach in the synagogue, "Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him." They refer to Yeshua (Jesus) as being previously a carpenter, a trade he likely learned from his father of the same profession.

The Gospel also mentions carpentry in Matthew 13:54-55, saying "Coming to his hometown [Yeshua (Jesus)] taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished, and said, 'Where did this man get this wisdom and these mighty works? Is not this the carpenter's son? Is not his mother called Mary? And are not his brothers James and Joseph and Simon and Judas?'"

Yeshua (Jesus) before starting his Heavenly Father's Spiritual Work could have remained idle expecting his earthly parents to feed and provide for him or wait for "Miraculous Manna" to come from somewhere or anywhere since he was on a Special mission in Israel. No. Absolutely nothing of that sort ever happened. 

Yeshua was humbly working as a Carpenter under his Foster Father Joseph's skilled carpentry work. Yeshua was simply known by his self employed profession of working as a Carpenter for his father Joseph and also as the "Carpenter's Son". 

Does Elohim's (God's) Word at Matthew 6:33 tell or require us to do no secular work for ourselves and only to do spiritual work for Elohim (God) all the time? 

Matthew 6:33

"But seek ye first the kingdom of Elohim, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you."

This article is not referring to Missionaries work or Pastors work who are properly organized for their preaching and teaching under some Ministry, Congregation, Church or Assembly. For Elohim (God) is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all assemblies of the saints. - 1 Corinthians 14:33

In many Bible Ministries, all over India, this scriptural verse of Matthew 6:33 is MISUNDERSTOOD & MISCONSTRUED & MISAPPLIED in their daily ministerial life as a Pastor or Elder or Missionary.

Strong's 4412: First, in the first place, before, formerly. Neuter of protos as adverb; firstly.

The translation at Matthew 6:33 does not use the Greek word of μόνο

móno which means ONLY. It uses the Greek word of  πρῶτον (prōton) which means FIRST or First place or Firstly. 

But what do we see are the real ground realities in many Pastors, Elders and Missionaries lives?          

• They are seeking ONLY the Kingdom of Elohim (God) 
• They were supposed to according to Scripture of Matthew 6:33 to seek FIRST the Kingdom of Elohim (God)
• This accurate understanding of scripture implies that Spiritual work of Elohim's (God's) Kingdom has to be FIRST. Has to be given FIRST PRIORITY above all other work. 
• If Kingdom of Elohim (God) Work is FIRST (1) then what is our SECOND (2) and THIRD (3) or other work?

REPEATING FOR EMPHASIS:

Yeshua taught at Matthew 6:33 to keep Spiritual Work FIRST, and all our Secular Work SECOND or THIRD. By keeping Spiritual Goals FIRST, then "all things will be given to you". But if you are NOT DOING ANYTHING Secondly and Thirdly in your Secular life to meet your daily needs, then how will the Almighty bless your Second and Third work?

There exists a huge number of Pastors and Elders in many Sabbath Keeping Assemblies all over India, who voluntarily decide to join and participate within the full time ministry of working in the vineyard of the Master (Lord) Yeshua. Some do this without "COUNTING THE COSTS" of such a life long decision and what impact it will have on their "Daily Needs", "Daily Bread" and "Daily Living Costs". 

Count the Cost Through Planning Ahead

In Luke 14:25-33, Yeshua (Jesus) is encouraging his followers to think about what it means to follow him and how to follow him accurately. 

So, in order to get his point across, Yeshua (Jesus) uses two examples of how planning ahead of time can lead to a successful outcome. Here we are focusing on the example that involves building a tower.

Yeshua (Jesus) says in Luke 14:28-30:

“For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish – lest, after he has laid the foundation, and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish.’”

The teaching could not be more obvious. Achieving success at the end of the journey starts at the beginning of the journey.

So to all the Pastors and Elders who have voluntarily chosen the full time ministry on their own choice, decision and discretion and if done without counting the costs of doing so and without any long term planning whatsoever,  as our Master & Teacher Yeshua taught us. Then they have lots of self inspection, investigation and introspection to be done, if they are regularly & repeatedly in need of financial help.

CONCLUSION IN SHORT:

When Yeshua your Master, Teacher, Prophet and Messiah was Self Employed as a Carpenter, what stops you from being Self Employed in some small way to be blessed by Yah to meet your daily needs?
